Temiskaming Hospital recently participated in an external accreditation assessment of its Mammography Service in March 2018.

The Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) accreditation program assesses mammography program compliance with best practice imaging, clinical/technical and quality program standards. From the assessment, Temiskaming Hospital’s mammography service has been successfully accredited for the period of April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2021. Temiskaming Hospital achieved 100% compliance of the criteria which is required to be CAR accredited.

Temiskaming Hospital performed a total of 1938 mammograms in 2017, an example of close to 2000 people who received care close to home.

As active participants in the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP), 1328 mammograms aligned with this program. In order to continue providing this invaluable program, Temiskaming Hospital is required to be CAR accredited.

The Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) is a province-wide, organized cancer screening program that provides high-quality breast cancer screening throughout Ontario. Screening mammography can find breast cancers when they are small, less likely to have spread to the lymph nodes and more likely to be successfully treated. Women ages 50 to 74 are encouraged to get screened through the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) to receive all the program benefits.

Congratulations to the staff of our Mammography service for the continued focus on high quality services at Temiskaming Hospital.
