FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Leadership Transition at Temiskaming Hospital
Temiskaming Shores, ON, March 24, 2026 - The Executive Committee of Temiskaming Hospital’s Board of Directors is announcing that Mike Baker has resigned as President and CEO effective May 31, 2026. Mike has accepted an appointment as the CEO of Timmins and District Hospital, continuing his commitment to healthcare in Northern Ontario.
“On behalf of the Board I would like to thank Mike Baker for his outstanding leadership since joining the hospital in 2018,” said Denise Balch, Board Chair. “Anyone who has spoken to Mike personally or has heard him through his regular monthly guest appearances on CJTT FM knows that he is passionate about our hospital and making quality healthcare accessible to every member of our community. He has worked tirelessly to secure additional beds and adequate funding. He has engaged in community collaborations to optimize access to care, prioritizing relationships with Indigenous partners. We have all benefited from his leadership and his commitment to a positive workplace culture.”

The Board is initiating a comprehensive search process to secure a new President and CEO. Brent Gabbani, Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed as the Interim President & CEO effective June 1. Brent’s proven leadership, business acumen and involvement in the community will serve him well during this interim period. Mike will continue to work closely with the Board of Directors, Brent and executive team until his May 31st departure to ensure a smooth transition.
Temiskaming Hospital is a 70 bed facility located in Temiskaming Shores that serves approximately 33,000 residents across the Timiskaming District. The hospital provides primary and acute care services, including a 24 hour emergency room for communities in the area that include Temiskaming Shores (New Liskeard, Haileybury, Dymond) and Cobalt, as well as surrounding rural areas.
